Senior Web Developer (Javascript /HTML5)

Boardworks is a leading Oxford-based EdTech business. As the market-leading independent business in the UK secondary school market, we have around 50 staff and are growing fast. We have products in over 95% of UK secondary schools and we also have a strong focus on international sales with products in 60 countries worldwide; and a New York office with a profitable national US business.

We are owner-managed, come from a background in teaching, are highly commercial and believe passionately in EdTech’s ability to make a difference to educational outcomes. This means that everyone here is 100% focused on producing amazing products with equally amazing efficiency. Decisions get made fast, ideas listened to, and everyone feels ownership. We use Agile.

The development team work alongside product owners, content editors, and Educational Advisers (former teachers and school leaders) to create products that demonstrably improve teaching and learning in school and at home. We have a wide and growing portfolio of products including:

• homework and assessment (www.doddlelearn.co.uk)
• student progress monitoring, analysis and reporting
• teaching content (www.boardworks.co.uk)
• MyPLC: an online, sixth form student self-assessment system
• MyWorks: a mobile-first content platform
• internal tools for our editorial team to produce HTML5 animation and other interactive content; and others, in production.

We are currently recruiting a senior web developer to work in our central Oxford office. We’re looking for:

• Track record of delivery, particularly through great soft-skills / team work
• Technical excellence, preferably supported by strong academics
• 5+ years experience
• Extensive javascript, HTML5, and CSS
• Great judgement over UX
• Experience with back-end technologies, specifically, PHP / MySQL is an advantage; and we will consider a full stack developer.

IT Assistant

Boardworks has an exciting opportunity for candidates interested in a career in IT.

Within this varied role, you would be:

- Providing technical support for staff and customers
- Resolving issues and providing assistance in person, on the phone and via email.
- Working across the company to support LAN, WAN, WiFi, software, servers, desktops, mobile devices, telephones and printers.

Essential criteria:

- Knowledge of the practical aspects of IT, and a keen desire to develop proficiency in IT within a business context.
- Technical experience of Windows client operating systems and Microsoft Office.
- An interest in hardware and software troubleshooting.

- iOS, Android and Mac Operating systems
- Active Directory administration
- Office365 administration

Science Editorial Assistant

Boardworks is a market-leading Oxford-based educational publisher producing innovative multimedia resources for use in schools. We are currently recruiting for an Editorial Assistant to join our science team working on our digital educational resources for UK and US schools. Successful applicants will be organised, enthusiastic and creative with a keen eye for detail and a good understanding of what makes an educational resource work.

Within this role you can expect to gain substantial experience in the development of curriculum resources for our ground-breaking online platform Doddle. As an editorial assistant, you will be responsible for writing high-quality content for both teaching and assessment resources for humanities subjects. The role may also involve copy-editing, proofreading, testing content, working with in-house designers and developers, and helping to develop future functionality for the site.

This is an ideal first job in publishing with excellent career development potential. Strong A-levels and a good degree in science is essential. Some publishing experience, teaching experience or a publishing qualification would be ideal.

Maths Editorial Assistant

We are currently recruiting for an Editorial Assistant to join our maths team. You can expect to gain substantial experience in the development of resources for our online platform, Doddle. Please note that this role is heavily focused on writing maths questions and explanations, since we create our resources in-house. You will also be required to proofread, draw simple diagrams for resources, test content and work with in-house designers and developers.
Successful applicants will have excellent written communication, creativity, organisational skills, a keen eye for detail, and enthusiasm for maths and education.

This is an ideal first job in publishing with excellent career development potential. A good degree in maths or statistics is essential. Some teaching or publishing experience would be ideal, and some interest in computing would also be beneficial.

Sales Support Coordinator: full-time, term-time, Oxford-based role

Doddle is seeking a Sales Support Coordinator to work in our office off the Cowley Road in Oxford (OX4 1LF). The role is full-time but because we work with schools, you’ll have the school holidays off!

What is Doddle?

Doddle is an online teaching and learning platform used by over 1,000 secondary schools in the UK. It’s a fantastic resource which contains teaching material, revision activities, and quizzes and tests that mark themselves! All this great stuff is available for 18 different subjects right across the curriculum. Schools subscribe to the resources for one or three years, so our account management team needs to be well-organised to ensure a high rate of re-subscription.

What would I be doing day to day?

You’ll be providing administrative support across the account management team, which will include working with data provided by customers to streamline their accounts; investigating issues that arise and working out solutions; and following up on training. You’ll be dealing with lots of customer email enquiries and ensuring that they are dealt with efficiently and appropriately. 

You’d be working in the sales and account management team in our Oxford office which means there is always someone on hand to help with any tricky questions and to share good ideas.

What are the hours?

The role is term-time only meaning you won’t be working the holiday weeks of Oxfordshire state schools. During term-time, the hours are 8:30-5.00, Monday-Friday.

Who are you looking for?

The ideal candidate is flexible and pro-active, and has:

  • Administrative experience, ideally gained within a sales team;
  • Exceptional organisational skills;
  • Great written and verbal communication skills;
  • An interest in technology and education.

Doddle Account Managers: part-time, term-time, Oxford-based roles

Freelance French voice recording opportunity

Boardworks has an opportunity available for native-level speakers of French to do voiceover recording for some GCSE quizzes that we are producing. This is a paid one-off job, and candidates will be required to work for between 1 and 3 hours.

- Do you speak French at a native level?
- Do you have a clear, expressive voice and excellent diction?
- Are you able to read aloud well?
- Are you able to speak French at a much slower than normal rate if asked to do so, and still sound enthusiastic?
- Do you have any acting experience, teaching experience, or experience of working with children? (Desirable but not essential)
- Would you be available for a recording session on a weekday between 9.30am and 5.30pm?
