Careers with languages poster

There is a decreasing number of new graduates with adequate language-learning skills, which is having a negative economic impact.

To help inspire students in their language learning, we’ve created a ‘Careers with languages’ poster.

Put the poster up in your school to show students the range of careers their language skills could open up for them, from video game translator to geoscientist.

Download it by clicking the button below.

PSHEE lesson plan: KS3 Drugs Education

OnBoard is our new email service that we’ve launched to provide great free stuff for your teaching all in one place, saving you hours of time.

Our first new free resource is Stephanie Signorile’s PSHEE lesson plan on smoking.

Getting students to discuss and explore issues in groups and using role play, Stephanie’s lesson encourages students to explore their own values regarding cigarette smoking:

‘It is very easy to feel strongly about not smoking, but sometimes very difficult to stick to your beliefs when confronted by pressure from peers.’

World AIDS Day: free resources

World AIDS Day is held on 1st December every year. The red ribbon is worn as a sign of support for people living with HIV and is designed to raise awareness of the problem.

A great way of raising awareness with your students is by dedicating a PSHEE lesson to teaching about it.

We’ve created some free teaching resources for you to download below.

Covering the following learning objectives, the PowerPoint presentation is fully editable so you can tailor the resources to your students:

• What is HIV?
• What is AIDS?
• How is HIV spread?
• What is World AIDS Day?

Study Skills: cross-curricular resources

How can teachers maximise students’ learning potential?

This is an important topic for teachers of all levels and all subjects to consider.

To help your students understand what kind of learner they are and the best ways they can use that knowledge to work well throughout the year, we’ve created some free resources for your teachers to use during assembly, during form time, or PSHEE lessons.

A VAK Dominance test puts the learning styles in context, practical suggestions offer students advice on how to become better learners, and audio clips bring the topic to life.

KS3 PSHEE: Consumer Rights lesson plan

‘Some aspects of PSHEE are essentially preparation for later life, but consumer protection is relevant to students in their current lives… Students may have to return goods to adults perhaps older than their parents and this is quite intimidating. Practising assertive complaining based on good legal understanding will help make them better consumers.’

Asserting consumer rights requires students to have both a knowledge of the legal aspects of consumer law, and the confidence to handle what can be a difficult social situation.

Role-play is one way of making the legal aspects of consumer law memorable, whilst also giving students the chance to practise asserting their consumer rights in realistic situations.

With this in mind, PSHEE teacher Sam Guineas has created a lesson plan featuring a variety of engaging role-play scenarios to help your students practise asserting their consumer rights.
